Jacket Gymnasts get back to State Print E-mail

The Cambridge-Isanti Gymnasts return to the Class AA State Team meet after a one-year hiatus after they won the Section 7AA championship at Forest Lake Feb. 19.

 Helping provide the 3/10s of a point winning difference over Elk River was a strong Bluejacket Beam grouping with no falls on the final rotation. Anna Solbrack (9.425), Maggie Johnson (9.35) and Emily Vogelpohl (9.3) all earned individuals trips to State by placing 2nd-4th on the Beam. Cheri Evenson added a 9.25 on the Beam for more key points.

Alex Illg also earned an individual State berth with a 9.4 on the Bars.

The Class AA Team Meet will be held Friday, Feb. 26 at the U of M Sports Pavilion, with the Individual & All-Around showcase held Saturday evening (both meets begin at 6 p.m.)

Girls Basketball: Cambridge-Isanti 62, Becker 53
The Bluejackets improved to 18-6 by downing the Bulldogs on "Seniors Night" at the CIHS gym. Whitney Olson led with 22 points, with more key scoring from Savanna Treichel (10), Shana Oberlander (8) and Deandra Vavra (8).

Boys Basketball: Cambridge-Isanti 49, Becker 44
The Jackets picked up another Mississippi 8 victory over the Bulldogs on the road Feb. 19. Joe Dunbar and Ty Liljander paced C-I with 12 points each; Ted Lutterman added 10 points.
