| Human Rights Commission seeking nominees for annual January award |

The Isanti County Human Rights commission is looking for nominations for the annual Isanti County Human Rights Award to be presented on the Martin Luther King holiday in January 2010. To make a nomination for this award, follow the guidelines and criteria as printed: The nominee must be a resident of Isanti County. The nominee cannot be a current member of the Isanti County Human Rights commission. Additional information; e.g., letters of support, newspaper copies, photographs, and etc. may be submitted with the application form. The deadline for the application submission is January 5, 2010. Criteria I. Individual Human Rights Award: To be presented to an individual who has: demonstrated dedication and commitment to promoting, advancing and protecting civil and human rights; led the development of contemporary measures to fight discrimination and prejudice; fostered positive inter-group relations among persons of different races, ethnic origins, genders, sexual orientations, religious backgrounds, ages, or physical or mental abilities. II. Business and Industry Awards: To be presented to a business or industry that has: developed and implemented an effective equal opportunity; affirmative action program as demonstrated by a diversified work force in which all persons afforded opportunities for employment and upward mobility, regardless of ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, color, age, disabilities, or other prohibited basis of discrimination. demonstrated their corporate responsibility by devoting resources to the improvement of human rights in the community at large. III. Community Groups and Non-Profit Organizations: To be presented to a community group or non-profit organization that has: demonstrated sustained commitment to the raising of the level of awareness and concern for violation of human rights. advocated the development and improvement of legal mechanisms for basic civil and human rights. educated and informed persons of their civil and human rights. led affirmative action efforts to bring full equality for all persons living within Isanti County.
